Go Camping in Your Pickup

If you like the idea of getting outside and camping, but don’t necessarily want to spend the night on the ground with creepy crawlies or worry about floating away in a downpour – why not try a truck bed tent?

These handy tents set up quickly and come in their own carry bag for easy storage.

Some features to consider when buying a tent for your truck bed:

Look for tents that used color-coded poles and pockets. This can simplify the set-up process and speed things up, which is helpful when you’re in a hurry to get to the relaxing part of camping.

Truck tents usually come in various sizes to fit your truck:
Full-size short bed (5’5″ to 5’8″)
Full-size regular bed (6’4″ to 6’7″)
Compact regular bed (6′ to 6’1″)
Full-size long bed (8′ to 8’2″)

Also, check the interior headroom with many truck bed tents ranging from 5’6″ to 6′ which isn’t as high as many ground tents but still enough space to be comfortable.

Cab Access:
Some truck bed tents are designed to have a window in the tent that lines up with the window in the back of your cab. This feature allows you to have easy access to items in your cab, which can be very handy in the middle of the night.

Just like with a standard tent, you’ll want to select a truck bed tent that has proper ventilation. Panels made out of mesh are typically used for windows, the doorway and the ceiling. The mesh helps provide airflow while also giving you a good view of your surroundings.

Built-in Floor
Some truck bed tents include a built-in floor while others are open. Having a design that includes the floor will enable you to create a better-protected interior from bugs and weather. If you are the type to keep many items in the bed of the truck, an open floor may give you more flexibility to put the tent over the top of those items.

While you are shopping for a tent, you may also want to pick up an air mattress designed explicitly for truck beds. These mattresses fit around and over the wheel wells of your pick-up, which creates a sleeping area that uses the entire truck bed.

You can find a variety of truck tents and truck air mattresses on Amazon and at some sporting good stores in the camping department.
